Matteo Berrettini withdraws from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics

World No.8 Matteo Berrettini has become the latest high-profile tennis player withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics.

He has enjoyed a brilliant 2021 so far, the highlight of which has been reaching the Wimbledon final, but he will not compete in Tokyo this summer.

The reason for the Italian star's absence in the Olympics this summer is due to muscular problems.

Berrettini would certainly have been one of the favourites for the gold medal, given the year that he has enjoyed and because he thrives on hard courts, which will be the surface in Tokyo.

Instead, he joins Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem and Roberto Bautista as the other high-profile names to have withdrawn from this summer's Olympics.
